This technology uses bacteria that have been engineered to carry and display viral proteins on their surface, while also having large portions of their own genome removed to make them simpler and less distracting to the immune system. When injected or administered, these stripped-down bacteria act as a delivery vehicle that trains the immune system to recognize and attack dangerous viruses like HIV, SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and Ebola. The reduced genome appears to help the immune system focus more sharply on the viral target rather than the bacterial carrier itself, producing a stronger and more specific antibody response.
