This technology improves the ability to pinpoint where a mobile device is located by combining two types of evidence: how the device's radio signal compares to a pre-built map of expected signal patterns at known locations, and how the device's signal relates to other nearby mobile devices whose locations are also unknown. By fusing these two sources of information—infrastructure-based signal fingerprinting and peer-to-peer signal measurements—the system produces a more accurate location estimate than either method alone. This is especially useful in environments like indoor spaces or dense urban areas where GPS is unreliable and traditional cell-tower triangulation is imprecise.
