This technology improves how SPECT scanners — a type of nuclear medicine imaging device — reconstruct internal images of the body. Instead of capturing data from the entire body, it focuses computation on a specific region of interest, using mathematical transforms to produce exact, stable images from that localized data alone. The method also incorporates a technique called high-order total variation minimization, which reduces image noise and artifacts. The practical result is sharper diagnostic images achieved with lower radiation doses and faster scan times.
