This technology uses precisely timed bursts of high-frequency electrical pulses to kill cancer cells inside the body. Unlike conventional electroporation, which can cause painful muscle contractions and collateral nerve damage, the high-frequency bipolar pulses cancel out unwanted electrical stimulation of nerves and muscles while still destroying tumor cells. The pulses can work either by opening permanent holes in cell membranes (irreversible electroporation) or by enhancing uptake of cancer-killing drugs (electrochemotherapy). It is designed to treat solid tumors, including difficult targets like brain tumors, with a minimally invasive probe.
